BlackBerry Bridge

If you're a BlackBerry PlayBook and smartphone owner you'll be happy to hear that BlackBerry Bridge has just received an update to v2.0.0.30. The change log is short on this one listing only a fix for predictive text issues on PlayBook OS 2.0.1, but I know some of you out there have been anxiously waiting for this to be resolved. Now, as we all know, a Bridge update is usually followed close behind by a PlayBook OS update but whether or not that's the case this time around, I guess time will tell.

The update should be available for most of you in BlackBerry App World, but if not you can try refreshing with ALT+R,S,T or just sit tight and wait for it to be pushed to your device.

Anders Jeppsson tweets about games

The excitement coming out of BlackBerry World 2012 is building. We know there are bound to be a lot of announcements, and already on the game front we've seen Laura Croft (FINALLY!) released today. Anders Jeppsson, Head of Gaming at Research in Motion, has revealed today on Twitter that we can expect a lot more in the near future. Some pretty big names in mobile gaming are getting set to launch popular titles such as Halfbrick with (one of my favorite games) Jetpack Joyride along with 4 others, SEGA with Sonic 4, Unity with Smashcops, GlitchSoft with Star Marine, and Fishlabs with Galaxy on Fire 2.

While there is no word on exactly when these games will all be released, it's great to know that some big names are in the works. Which do you plan on picking up when they are ready? Let us know in the comments below. Make sure you follow @CrackBerry and the team for all the exciting announcements from BlackBerry World 2012 as more is sure to come over the next few days.

Snowboarding is probably one of the most insane winter sports you can find. Just think about boarding, you barrel down a hill at insane speeds as you dodge people and trees, which is insane -- but those three things are why I love it. As the winter months have come to an end I’m looking for other ways to fill the void. Thanks to a new PlayBook developer Golden Hammer Software I now have something. Today we’re taking a close look at a new game for the BlackBerry PlayBook called Big Mountain Snowboarding, a game that provides you with the thrill of snowboarding on your PlayBook.

Features

  • 12 slopes to challenge your boarding skills
  • 1,000-foot cliffs
  • 3D environments
  • Addictive gameplay
  • Accelerometer support

While the game has some good graphics and utilizes the power of the tablet we all love, the story about the developers is equally interesting. The 2-man development team of Big Mountain Snowboarding are no stranger to mobile gaming world. They first started developing with Android and iOS, where this game reached a staggering download number of 1.5 million. Quite impressive, and there’s even better news. These guys are truly excited to be on the BlackBerry platform and are looking forward to bringing more of their games onto the PlayBook, and one would assume BlackBerry 10. Big Mountain Snowboarding is available in BlackBerry App World and is currently set at 3.99, well worth it I might add.

BlackBerry Music Gateway

A few years back, RIM introduced the BlackBerry Remote Stereo Gateway for streaming audio via Bluetooth. For whatever reason, that accessory is no longer available to purchase. Today RIM is introducing a new version of this awesome device, dubbed simply BlackBerry Music Gateway. Plan on getting your hands on this hot little device in June of this year with pricing said to be set at just $49.99. We'll have a hands on later, but for now you can find out all the details in the press release below.

BlackBerry World 2012!
CrackBerry Kevin & Chris Umiastowski at BlackBerry World 2012 - be sure to say hi!

Tomorrow morning, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins will take the stage at the opening keynote session for BlackBerry World 2012. There are a lot of hopes and expectations on RIM from beaten-down investors these days. So I thought I'd write up a quick set of my thoughts heading into the event.

Obviously everyone will be talking about the BlackBerry 10 developer alpha devices that will be given out to developers tomorrow at the sister BlackBerry 10 Jam event. We'll do our best to get a good look at these. But in the mean time, while we wait, let's remember that these are alpha devices. And they're for developers. There's a good chance they won't be very exciting to look at. Instead, what I care about is what developers can do with them.

Twitter for BlackBerry ver 3.0.0.24

While an update to Twitter for BlackBerry isn’t the news we’re waiting for from BlackBerry World and BlackBerry Jam, it’s still a nice treat for Monday morning. RIM has pushed version 3.0.0.24 of their Twitter app out. The new version is mostly bug fixes but also they’ve reenabled a couple of features that were turned off in the latest build.

Updates in version 3.0.0.24

  • Fixed error preventing some users from launching app

  • Fixed a freezing issue that some users encountered when becoming BBM connected

  • Limited valid username characters when signing up for new Twitter account

  • Re-enabled Profile Location mapping for latitude/longitude coordinates

  • Fix continuous loading bug when encountering certain tweets

The update should be available to most users today, but if you are impatient and really looking to get in on the latest version of Twitter for BlackBerry, doing the alt+R,S,T trick within App World should refresh your applications and help you have the update faster.

The Dicota PlayBook TabCover is a great option for those who don't use a case on their device but still want some form of protection for it. The TabCover is a padded sleeve that protects your device from bumps, scratches and dust. Its velcro closure makes sure your PlayBook isn't going anywhere.
